“GREEN BUILDING” PROJECT GROUNDBREAKING

GroundbreakingEl Paso, TX - March 3, 2010

On February 3, 2010 several community members and leaders turned out to see El Paso Community Action Program, Project Bravo break grounds for its first “Green Building” model home/office complex in Montana Vista. The new office will be located on 14901 Whitetail Deer Drive and is expected to be completed by late April.

The event marked the groundbreaking of the construction of Project BRAVO’s first Green Affordable Housing structure, and a new program aimed at developing affordable energy-efficient homes for the low income residents of the Montana Vista colonias.

The development team consists of Wright & Dalbin, El Paso Community College (EPCC), Mr. Steve Cook, Senercon (Southwest Energy Construction), and Project BRAVO Inc.  Completion of the model home/satellite office will also serve as the training grounds for EPCC’s Workforce Development Introduction to Construction Technology class. The project, which is being funded through a HUD Rural Housing and Economic Development (RHED) Capacity Building grant, and through American Recovery Act funding will be an Energy Star certified building. Energy-efficient features planned for this model home/office may include such features as solar cells or wind turbines for electricity, or solar collectors linked to seasonal thermal stores for space heating.
