CAP-On-Wheels
Project Bravo, Inc., El Paso’s anti-poverty Community Action Program, announces its CAP-On-Wheels Program. Project BRAVO recently received donations of two 14-passenger buses from LULAC’s Project Amistad. The vehicles have been converted into fully-equipped mobile office units. Each unit will be staffed by Project BRAVO intake staff. The mobile units will be used to take Project BRAVO’s services directly to clients who live in outlying areas of El Paso County.
According to U.S. Census figures, 33-percent of residents living in rural areas of El Paso County live far below the federal poverty line. Ninety percent of those residents do not have access to adequate housing, employment or transportation services.
Under the CAP-On-Wheels Program, residents will have easier access to the vital services currently administered from Project BRAVO’s six satellite offices. Among the areas to benefit from the CAP-On-Wheels Program will be rural areas surrounding Fabens, Clint, Tornillo, Montana Vista, and Canutillo.
Project BRAVO provides housing, education and employment services to elderly, disabled and low-income residents of El Paso. Project BRAVO was established in 1965 as a private IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt Corporation and is the designated Community Action Agency (CAA) for all of El Paso County. Project BRAVO is funded by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) through the Community Services Block Grant Program (CSBG) and various other funding sources.
